What is UX? (The Basics)

Simply put, UX is a process. UX at a high level is a process that includes research, strategy, and design. Some tend to assume UX is 100% design, but this isn't always true. In general, the practice of UX refers to a process that helps practitioners solve problems for users.

The aforementioned process is made up of various phases and as-needed methods and it also depends various tools and skills. How a UX practitioner contributes to the process depends on what the role of that UX practitioner is. The intention is for this process and its respective phases, methods, tools, and skills to help produce an effective, user-friendly, and research-informed experience whether a web experience, a mobile app, experience, or any other digital experience.
